New University building for VU
MVSA has been selected to design the NU.VU, the new building for the VU University, Amsterdam. The VU is developing this university building in the ‘Knowledge Quarter’ at the Amsterdam Zuidas (South Axis).
This new building will be inviting, inspiring and make use of clever design solutions to enhance its efficiency. Due to increasing number of students, and a reduction of government funding, the VU is obliged to make efficient use of the available space on the campus at the Zuidas.
The NU.VU will comprise of new meeting opportunities for teaching, science, businesses and communities. The strength of the new design will be a neutral development in functions, combined with public services such as conference facilities, small shops, catering and cultural facilities; with a total floor space of 31.000m².
Naturally the new structure will be highly sustainable in its low energy use and low exploitation and maintenance costs. The project is expected to be realized by the start of the new university year in 2017.
