NieuwPeil apartment complex
The NieuwPeil building is an apartment complex with a contemporary and Mediterranean look. In contrast with the other new developments in the area, the elevations are evenly finished and the block has a single building height. The elevations are made of elongated white concrete bricks with an aggregate of Norwegian granite. To emphasise the evenly finished elevations, the bricks were pointed with slightly recessed horizontal bed joints.
The brick building opens out at the north and south elevations. At the south side the apartments have terraces and green-glazed balconies. At the north side, which faces a tram turning loop, the access galleries from the first to the seventh floors are demarcated by a woven metal fabric. This fabric makes balustrades unnecessary.
The complex has 78 apartments and 1 commercial space for the Municipal Transport Authority. This office is positioned under a canopy on the ground floor at the west side of the building. On the rest of the ground floor and the other floors are three-room, four-room and five-room apartments. Almost every apartment has an external space: either a terrace, a balcony or a loggia.
The two main entrances are on the south side of the block. After entering the building the residents walk through a long corridor to the northern side. Elevators and stairwells, which are reached from access galleries, give access to all the apartments. The corridor, stairwells, landings and access galleries are designed in a continuous movement, with wide and open areas and unobstructed walkways.
