Moviescoop Emmeloord
The design for Emmeloord's new cinema complex is based on the interplay between open and closed characteristics. In the design the cinema element – which itself has a closed character - is elevated, while on the ground floor is the more interactive shop and café element, where the shop function is also supplemented by a branch of Fairplay. Because of the open exterior wall, these contribute to the lively atmosphere of the street.
The cinema, with three screens, is situated on the first floor. This storey is also partly open to the outside world. Two of the cinema halls have a window just under the screen that is covered with a curtain while a film is being shown. Before and after a screening, however, the windows offer a view out from the cinema. On the outside the window frames are enlarged to create a space for film posters, and accentuated with wide white borders in Corian. In their design these reflect the Grandpré Moliere-like architecture that is characteristic of Emmeloord. The building's outer wall is clad in aluminium panels with four different degrees of perforation, giving the skin of the complex a lively and nuanced character. The white Corian and aluminium window frames create an attractive contrast with the dark, understated panels.
The projection rooms and the entrances to the cinemas are located in the central area. They are reached via a broad staircase with parquet flooring. Because there is no need for a foyer in this personal service cinema, the staircase and the walkways have generous dimensions. The entrance stairway has an inviting and theatrical character.
