International Marketing & Design Centre
Amsterdam Houthavens
2011-2013
All the designs for the various Gaastra sportswear collections are created in the Gaastra design centre, where top international designers work on the development of new collections that can be exhibited to the public in the showrooms of the International Marketing and Design Centre. An integrated catwalk on the terrace, linked to the Gaastra Café, is able to attract major fashion events.
The Gaastra Café, which is open to the public, is the central public function of the Houthavens. It is a resting place for passers-by, a meeting point for the creative professionals who work in the area, a tourist destination and a place-to-be for lovers of water sports.
The Gaastra design centre is a highly sustainable building that complies with the strictest EPC standards. Energy use is also greatly reduced by means of underground heat and cold storage in combination with heat pumps. The balconies and floor edges extend far out from the building to serve as permanent sunshades.
With its new International Marketing and Design Centre, Gaastra is affirming its traditional connections with water and Holland. Because of its favourable location, it offers outstanding opportunities for directing Gaastra’s European operations. Gaastra’s roots in competitive sailing are expressed in the International Marketing and Design Centre’s nautical design.
